Amore e volontà possono apparire come due poli sostanzialmente in antitesi, in quanto generalmente il sentimento dell'amore è avvolgente, magnetizzante, collante, mentre le caratteristiche tipiche della volontà sono affermazione, separazione, talvolta autoritarismo. A prima vista, dunque, amore e volontà si presentano come diametralmente opposti.
